Statewide NRM coordination and policy
Investment required:
$11.1 million over four years
The work of Queensland’s 12 regional NRM organisations is underpinned by regional natural resource management plans, developed at the local level in collaboration with community groups, land managers, industry organisations, researchers, local governments and First Nations people. These regional NRM plans are owned by the community and allow us, as a sector to connect with people on the ground, to secure resources for local priorities and to communicate about threats and solutions to these challenges.
To continue to support our community in this way, and to lead the adoption of cutting-edge solutions to balancing nature conservation with food and fibre security, we’re proposing a series of projects that have impacts across the state. This supports work already being undertaken to support the Protected Area estate and particularly Nature Refuge landholders and to investigate our role in response to the review on native vegetation management as well as new environmental finance models.
What we’re proposing
- Drive the uptake of natural capital accounting across all NRM regions culminating in a statewide set of accounts.
- Strategic communication and impact reporting, as well as a data collection system to measure outcomes across the state.
- Develop a policy and framework for a Climate and Nature Positive Future for Queensland including a suite of financial instruments and revised Green Bonds program.
- Investigating long-term procurement processes for NRM through a preferred-provider basis.
- Build and maintain the governance and Board skills of 65 community representatives to oversee risk management and strategic planning.
